Can I really be a Bruin?!?!?

I am sure that most of you already know that JP is the new head baseball coach at Mountain View High School. He landed the job about a month ago. I could not be more happy for him and this new endeavor! JP's true calling in life is to coach and teach high school and now he will be doing exactly that. I am so proud of JP and look forward to many very successful seasons of Mountain View Baseball.

Wednesday night the school hosted a "Meet the Coach" BBQ where all of the boys interested in playing baseball and their parents could come and meet the coach. At this little BBQ I had a few harsh realizations come to me.

1st--I am now a coaches wife. I do not know all that this entails but I am sure I will find out soon enough. Many people have asked me "Do you have any idea what you are getting yourself into?" My response to that would be yes! I am getting into having a husband that LOVES his profession! I consider myself extremly lucky for this one.

2nd--My future is going to consist of high school boys. I am sure that many night and weekends will also revolve around high school boys. I have not decided if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet and I am sure I will find out soon enough! The good thing is that the boys seem to be really good kids. If they are good kids how can it be all that bad...right?

3rd--Can I really be a BRUIN??? This is think will be the toughest for me to overcome. My life history consists of generation after generation of Caveman! I have known the words to the American Fork Caveman's school song for as long as I can remember and my family still sings it from time to time. I have never known life outside of being a Caveman. Am I ever going to be able to let go of all the Caveman history and become a Bruin? JP has done an amazing job at letting go of the Orem Tiger in him and transforming to a Bruin, I can only hope that I learn from him and eventually do the same thing. I will alway support JP and cheer for his team (unless they are playing American Fork), but only time will tell if I will ever be able to truly call myself a Bruin.

Wish me luck!

Let the Games Begin!

To get into the Olympic spirit JP and I decided that we were going to host an Olympic kick off party. Friday night, before the opening ceremony, we had our 1st Durfey Family Olympics! The party started off with a delicious assortment of Chinese food (thanks to Mark and his Hong Kong roots in bringing some of the "real" Chinese food:). Dinner was followed with Soccer, relay races, distance race, discus throw, and a few other events. During the events dreams were achieved, records were made, and no injuries occurred! After the events we had the medal ceremony. JP and made a platform for the medalists to stand on and the Star Spangled Banner was playing in the background as we placed the medals around the necks of the winners.

Our 1st Durfey Olympics is an evening that will be remember by many for years to come! Some of the gracious winners!
Most of the cheering section!

Back From Denver and Michigan!!!

Over the past week my sister Diane and her family has finally decided to make the move from Denver back to Utah and my nephew Trever came home from his mission!!! Trever got home on Wednesday and the best part of that for me was JP finally was able to meet him! Diane and her family came on Thursday. Diane and her family moved back here in a hurry after they sold their house in Denver so that their 3 girls could get started in School.

On Thursday we had a Welcome Home/Birthday party for all of them. It was Sydnee's 7th birthday on Thursday and we could not miss celebrating that!
The Birthday cake. It was the cutest cake that I have ever made. I was very impressed with myself!
The littler girls in the family.

The Ladies. We may not always act that way but we still like to call ourselves ladies.

The boys. It sure was nice to have Trever back in the mix. He was greatly missed for the past 2 years!

Welcome back Trever and the Storms family!!!
